So far, it’s the coldest April ever in Rockford and the fourth-coldest ever recorded in Chicago.

A Kane County community tallied the second-highest wind gust on Saturday, April 14, 2018 — a tidy little 47 mph breeze in Sugar Grove.

Elgin got 1.5 inches of snow. Algonquin got an inch, and several other Kane County towns reported a half inch or more as of 10:19 a.m. Monday.

Those are just three not-so-fun facts about the first part of April 2018, as provided by the National Weather Service Chicago.

Cougars games and Cubs games were canceled over the weekend and today (Monday, April 16, 2018), and there’s more cool weather in the forecast this week. There’s a chance of freezing rain on Wednesday and rain or snow on Wednesday night.

April 1-15 Temps

For the first half of April (1-15), temperatures certainly have been below normal for the period. But just how cold?

Records date back to 1872 for Chicago and 1905 for Rockford.
