Ron Ford Returns! Newest Kane County Board Member Has Experience in The Role

Kane County’s newest board member has a pretty good chance of hitting the ground running.

Ron Ford was sworn in Tuesday as the new representative of the county’s 6th District, which covers parts of Aurora and North Aurora. Ford replaces Brian Dahl, who resigned because he is moving out of the district.

Ironically, it was Dahl who was appointed to replace Ford in 2015, when Ford stepped down from the 6th District spot after six years due to a change in the rules of the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund that actually would have lowered his retirement benefits.

Ford will take over Dahl’s committee appointments, which include Administration, Development, Executive, Human Services, Jobs and Transportation committees. He will co-chair the Jobs Committee.

As a small-business owner and general contractor in residential remodeling, Ford brings a number of skill sets to the board along with his previous experience as representative of District 6.

During his previous tenure on the Kane County Board, he helped guide such facility-related projects as the Sheriff’s Certification Range, Diagnostic Center move, Third Street Courthouse elevator project, Government Center signage project, and the sale of the Sixth Street School property.

Ford was joined by his family and dozens of friends for his brief swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, including Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin and Alderman At Large Sherman L. Jenkins.

His long list of civic efforts past and present include God’s Gym and Aurora Christian Health Center, Bridging The Gap Program at East and West Aurora school districts to help advance and assist Latino young women, Project Single Moms to educate, empower and assist single mothers, Haley’s Playground, a development environment for special need kids, Sundowners Track Club, Illinois Youth Ministry at New Community Baptist Church, QCAAC-Quad County African American Chamber, Workforce Investment Board, Sagecrest Hills homework program, Chistmas Party/Toy Drive for Youth, and many others.
