Lawyer coach Patrick Crimmins, who coached his 29th team this season, said he couldn’t be more proud.
“This team was rebuilt after losing seven seniors from the 2017 championship season, and they worked and scratched and clawed their way to excellence,” he said.
The championship represents the sixth straight time the team as finished second or higher. It is the first repeat champion since 2012.
“Mr. Crimmins preaches that we just need to have fun. Winning is fun,” said junior and captain Sanjeev Viswan. “We just want to go to Reno and do our best for Illinois and ourselves and, of course, have fun.”
