The Board of Park Commissioners of the St. Charles Park District has announced the purchase of Sportsplex, an indoor 62,500-square foot, multi-sport complex located at 1400 Foundry St. in St. Charles.

“The addition of Sportsplex to the Park District’s facilities enables us to increase our indoor recreational programming,” said Holly Cabel, director of parks and recreation. “This was one of the top five priorities indicated in the results of our 2016 community survey and is a key item on the district’s updated comprehensive plan.”

Constructed in 2001, the climate-controlled Sportsplex complex consists of two turf fields with spectator seating, multi-purpose rooms, concession stand, front desk/registration area, sports performance center, athletic training spaces and administrative offices.

“The purchase of Sportsplex allows the Park District to continue to offer this space as a recreational amenity for the community to play or learn the sports of soccer and lacrosse, among others, and to rent out space for other sports practices,” Cabel said. “It also allows us to increase our recreational programming for early childhood, youth, teens and adults.”

The Park District plans to make improvements and renovations to the facility over the summer months when the building’s usage is off-peak, with full operational capabilities slated for Fall 2018, according to Laura Rudow, superintendent of parks and planning. These will include the areas of HVAC, plumbing, parking areas, ADA accessibility, patron flow and aesthetics.

In addition, the Park District plans to install a curtain dividing system for the turf fields in order to allow multiple groups to use the fields at the same time. Renovations will also take place to the facility’s multi-purpose rooms so as to make it available for additional athletic, fitness and dance classes beginning in the fall.

Themed birthday party packages will also be available this fall.

The Sportsplex facility will also be available for rent by the park district’s current roster of associated groups and other community athletic organizations.

“In addition to the typical use for the turf fields, we expect this to be a location for our No School Day activities, Fox Valley Special Recreation Association programs and birthday parties,” said Rudow.

The Park District will continue working with Lil’ Kickers Fox Valley and the Sports Performance Academy to offer their services at the facility.

The district has launched a new website: stcsportsplex.org. For more information about the Sportsplex acquisition and plans, contact Laura Rudow at 630-513-4344.
