3 Outstanding Students Named Kane County Fair 4-H Scholarship Winners

The Kane County Fair Board of Directors in St. Charles has named Kristina Drendel, Megan Fidler, and Elaina Studt as its 2018 scholarship recipients.

Each student, who is an active member of a local 4-H Club, will receive $750 per year for four years, or a cumulative total of $3,000, as they continue and complete their higher education.

“We are pleased to continue the tradition of awarding scholarships to worthy young students in our 4-H community,” said Larry Breon, chairman of the Kane County Fair board of directors. “It’s an honor for us to help these three outstanding students who give back to their communities and have set high goals for their future success.”

Since launching its Kane County Fair 4-H scholarship program more than 10 years ago, many Kane County area 4-H students have been awarded financial assistance to further their education.

Kristina Drendel of Hampshire

Kristina Drendel of Hampshire ranks 14 out of a graduating class of 370 students at Hampshire High School with a GPA of 3.96/4. She is an Illinois State Scholar, Distinguished A.P. Scholar, National Honor Society and National Honor Society of High School Scholars.

At her high school, she has participated in theatre, plays and musicals; Tri-M president, Drama Club treasurer; marching band drum major; student ambassador; French Club; Jazz choir section leader; and jazz band lead trumpet.

She is a member of the Hampshire Jr. Farmers. Her community activities include: altar server at her church; 4-H president, previous vice president and treasurer; outstanding teen award; created and headed fundraiser for memorial at SCB, FVTC Theatre.

She will be pursuing drama and journalism in college.

Megan Fidler of Sycamore

Megan Fidler of Sycamore ranks 33 out of a graduating class of 277 students at Sycamore High School with a GPA of 3.94/4. Her honors include: Academic All Conference Dance Team 2017 and 2018; and Academic Varsity Letter 2015.

Her activities at school include: FFA (four years-Chapter president and secretary); Varsity Dance team for four years; National Honor Society, junior and senior year; and Big Sis/Lil Sis, senior year.

She is a member of the Burlington Ag 4-H Club and participated in various community service activities such as food drives, hat and mitten drives, and volunteering at St Catherine Church in Genoa.

She will continue her education at the University of Wisconsin Platteville to study Ag Business/Ag Economics.

Elaina Studt of Elgin

Elaina Studt of Elgin ranks 37 out of a graduating class of 249 at Burlington Central High School with a GPA of 3.88/4.

She has received academic high honors for all four years and has been a high school cheerleader and member of student government for all four years of high school.

She is an active 4-H Club member since 2005 and served as 4-H president from 2015-17. Her community activities include a county ambassador, piano lessons for the past ten years; Ellis-Certified Lifeguard/CPR-Certified/First Aid Certified 2017-18 and swim lessons instructor 2017-2018.
