A Memorial Service For Area Firefighters Will Be Held May 12 in Elgin
A memorial service this weekend will remember area and Illinois firefighters who have lost their lives in the previous year.
The Firefighter Memorial Service will be hosted by the Elgin Fire Department and held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Elgin’s Firefighter Memorial in George Van De Voorde Park, 533 St. Charles St.
The keynote speaker for this years’ service will be Carpentersville Fire Chief John Paul Schilling.
The memorial is held each year to remember those who have served area communities and passed away in the previous year as well as to honor Illinois firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty over the previous year.
Area fire departments participating in the event include Algonquin/Lake in the Hills, Bartlett, Carpentersville, East Dundee, Elgin, Geneva, Hampshire, Hanover Part, Hoffman Estates, Marengo, Pingree Grove, Rutland Dundee, St. Charles, South Elgin, Streamwood and West Dundee.
Refreshments will be served after the service, and the Fire Museum will be open to the public.
All are welcome to attend, and the event will be held rain or shine. Parking will be available at Garfield School, 420 May St.
