Don’t Forget! Kane County Real Estate Taxes Due June 4
In the rush following the long Memorial Day weekend, it’s easy to forget that there’s a deadline that you won’t want to miss.
This first installment of your real estate taxes are due June 4, 2018, and you should know, there is a penalty if you don’t pay on time.
As indicated on the chart below, there’s no penalty if you pay that first installment by June 4, but the penalties increase monthly if you don’t pay.
The second installment, just as an FYI, is due Sept. 4, 2018.
Kane County Clerk Jack Cunningham reports that Net Taxable Valuation for Kane County is $13,844,989,451 — that’s $13 billion with a “b” — with a total real estate tax extension of $1,299,306,673.
You may visit the Kane County Treasurer’s Office website at KaneCountyTreasurer.org to view current tax information and print out duplicate bills.
Also available on this website is a list of all unclaimed funds held by the treasurer. You might want to check that out to see if you’ve got a happy surprise in the form of cash.
How to Pay Your Property Taxes
You can pay property taxes online on the county’s new, state-of-the-art website. It’s called DevNet, and you can access it by clicking this link.
Taxpayers also can make a payment by:
- Mailing a check with coupon to the Treasurer’s Office, in the envelope provided.
- Making payment at any one of the designated banks within Kane County on or before the due date. Please remember to bring a payment coupon.
- Making payment with check, cash or credit card during business hours in the Treasurer’s Office — 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday except holidays. Rickert reminds residents to bring a payment coupon and note that there is a convenience fee for credit card use.
- Dropping a check with coupon in the property tax drop box, which is available 24 hours a day. The drop box is located behind Building A at the Kane County Government Center, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Geneva. Check and coupon must be in an envelope.
- Paying by credit card or e-check over the Internet. Again, residents should note there are convenience fees for both of these services. Additional information is available on the Treasurer’s Office website KaneCountyTreasurer.org.
