Elgin Will Honor Retiring Police Chief Jeffrey Swoboda Thursday at The Centre

The city of Elgin will honor retiring Police Chief Jeffrey Swoboda during a ceremony from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 30, in the Heritage Ballroom at the The The Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way.

Swoboda is retiring after 26 years of service with the Elgin Police Department, and will serve as the new police chief in Fort Collins, CO.

“With such a long career here in our city, we know many in the community wish to say goodbye and extend well-wishes,” Elgin officials said on the Elgin Police Department Facebook page.

Swoboda, 48, has had a long history with the Elgin Police Department, where he started in 1992 and rose through the ranks as an officer and attained the ranks of sergeant, lieutenant and deputy chief. He was sworn in as Elgin’s police chief on April 16, 2010.

“With that in mind, the public is invited to Chief Swoboda’s retirement ceremony that will be hosted in the Heritage Ballroom. We will be honoring his policing and leadership contributions, and his positive impact on our neighborhoods and city. We hope you will come extend your congratulations and support as he leaves to start a new and exciting chapter in his life.”
