Flags at Half Staff May 15 For Peace Officers Memorial Day

United States and Illinois flags will be flown at half staff Tuesday (May 15, 2018) to honor Illinois’ fallen police officers and firefighters.

On Peace Officers Memorial Day and during Police Week, we acknowledge the incredible service and sacrifices law enforcement personnel make each day.

The proclamation was made both by the state of Illinois and the White House.

“The brave men and women of our nation’s law enforcement work long hours, often in dangerous situations, to protect our lives, liberty, and property,” President Donald Trump said in a proclamation. “We also take this opportunity to pay tribute to law enforcement personnel who have been killed or disabled in the line of duty. We will never forget their courage.”

Honoring Illinois’ Fallen

The Department of Central Management Services has received notice from Gov. Bruce Rauner that all persons or entities covered by the Illinois
Flag Display Act are to fly the flags at half-staff during Peace Officers Memorial Day, from sunrise to sunset Tuesday, May 15, 2018.

Please lower the United States flags and the state flags at all buildings.
