Kane County Pavement Preservation Project to Begin Week of May 29

You already know about the Kane County road resurfacing projects going on now and you’ve seen the May update of road construction projects, but the KDOT’s to do list is even longer than reported in those two stories.

Starting the week of May 29, 2018, Kane County will begin the process of applying an asphalt sealer/rejuvenator on the county routes listed below.

These are roads that have been resurfaced within the last two years but need a little touch-up.

Pavement preservation techniques use lower cost maintenance improvements conducted earlier in the life cycle of the asphalt pavement by reducing the water penetration that leads to freeze/thaw damage and preventing oxidation of the asphalt material.

The process will involve spraying the rejuvenator liquid, allowing the liquid to cure, placing sand on the treated roads for traction, and then sweeping up the excess material.

A list of the roads to be treated this year are listed below. Work is expected to occur in the order the roads are listed.  Construction work hours will be from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day for two to four weeks.

County Highway From To
Huntley Road  1365 feet south of Longmeadow Pkwy Longmeadow Pkwy
Longmeadow Parkway 1800 feet west of Huntley Road Randall Road
Ellithorpe Road 4750 feet west of Chapman Road McGough Road
Peplow Road IL Route 64 Rolling Oaks
Harter/Perry Road 1500 feet southeast of Scott Road W County Line Road
Scott Road Swan Road Harter Road

The above-mentioned roads will remain open during treatment but will be reduced to one lane of travel using flaggers and temporary daily lane closures.

Motorists need to be prepared to reduce their speed, exercise caution, and be extra alert. Watch for construction workers, construction vehicles entering or leaving the site, and obey flaggers and other traffic control devices within the work zone.

You should expect delays while traveling through the work areas, and you may want to add additional time to their commutes and consider the use of alternate routes while this work is being completed.

A reminder: It is illegal for drivers to talk on a cell phone while driving through a highway construction work zone.
