Kane County Reduces Electric Vehicle Charging Station Price

Kane County Reduces Electric Vehicle Charging Station Price

The Kane County Courthouse electric vehicle charging station fee has been reduced to promote station usage and create a net-neutral cost system.

As electric vehicles gain momentum around the nation, Kane County has been on the forefront of this movement, with an additional electric vehicle charging station installed and another previous EV station upgraded over the past several years.

Now, three EV charging stations are available through Kane County in addition to the other EV charging stations installed by other municipalities or private ownership.

To date, the Kane County EV charging stations have resulted in a reduction of 5,102 kilograms of greenhouse gases in the community, which is equivalent to 234 tree seedlings grown for 10 years.

Equivalent to the greenhouse gas savings resulting from Kane  County EV charging stations.

The EV stations are located at the Kane County Courthouse on Third Street Geneva, the Kane County Government Center on South Batavia Avenue in Geneva, and the Kane County Health Department on North Highland Avenue in Aurora.

Kane County EV charging stations are run by ChargePoint, the largest network of EV charging stations in the U.S. Find available ChargePoint stations at Chargepoint.com.

As the networking plan included in installation expired in 2016, the EV charging station located at the Kane County Courthouse required a new networking plan to be purchased by the county. With the cost of this plan, a fee was imposed to recuperate the costs from the networking fee and create a system with net-neutral costs.

On Tuesday, May 8, 2018, the Kane County Board approved the reduction of this fee to $0.15/kWh in order to promote usage and the ideal net neutral system.

This reduced fee will go into effect on June 1, 2018.

The remaining two EV charging stations at the Kane County Government Center and Health Department continue to be available without a fee through the duration of the installation networking plan.
