May 5 iFest Brings World’s Culture to Elgin

Elgin’s International Festival, also known as iFest, brings together dozens of the world’s cultures that are found throughout the greater Fox Valley region.

The event, set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5, in downtown Elgin, features music and entertainment, ethnic cuisine, children’s activities, a “world market” and cultural arts and crafts.

Admission to iFest is free and open to all ages. Food vendors and some regional exhibitors will have items for sale.

What’s New?

This year, iFest has been moved to May 5 to be part of a weekend of cultural events in downtown Elgin.

The Downtown Neighborhood Association’s Elgin Cinco De Mayo! event takes place from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, May 4, and the Gail Borden Public Library’s Asian Pacific American Heritage Celebration takes place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 5.

New Location!

In addition to moving the iFest date, the event location has moved from Riverside Drive to the The Centre of Elgin and nearby locations.

Country exhibitors will be located inside the Centre’s Heritage Ballroom so that precious artifacts and generational garments are not exposed to outside weather conditions.

Entertainment will be held in the green space just west of the Centre. Food trucks, additional food vendors and activities (like the salsa challenge) will be located along Grove Avenue and in the parking adjacent to the green space (between Kimball and Symphony).
