Montgomery, Aurora Lead Region in 48-Hour Rainfall Totals

Montgomery goes to the head of the class as measured by 48-hour rainfall totals in the region.

According to the National Weather Service Chicago, the rainfall amounts for the previous two days as measured this morning (Tuesday, May 22, 2018) by NWS cooperative observers and CoCoRaHS observers show Montgomery (in Kendall County) got 2.82 inches.

Aurora’s 2.67 inches of rain were second. Observations are usually taken between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m.

O’Hare rainfall showed 1.96 inches on Monday (May 21), eclipsing the old daily record of 1.16 inches set in 1974.

The 7.31 inches at O’Hare as of today makes this the third-wettest May in Chicago history — with nine days left on the calendar. The record rainfall total was 7.59 inches in 1945. The second-wettest May was 7.32 inches in 1883.

Significant rainfall amounts occurred on May 20-21, with the heaviest rain occurring during the mid to late morning Monday.
