Sleek, mysterious, cuddly, elegant, silky, and beautiful.

What are these adjectives describing?

If you’re a cat lover, you might have guessed a black cat, the most maligned feline throughout American history starting with the Pilgrims arriving at Plymouth Rock.

Can you believe it? The folks who brought us a full day of turkey and football viewed the black cat as an extension of evil and the myth has carried itself all the way into present day American culture.

Talk about centuries of fake news! Nothing can be further from the truth as most owners of black cats can attest.

Take for example, Tucker, a resident at Kane County Animal Control. He is an 11-year-old domestic shorthaired black cat owner-surrendered along with his housemate, Logan.

A social cat that loves getting attention and lots and lots of petting, Tucker is more than willing to volunteer for the position of couch potato at your home. Give him a window with a view of the sun and he will give you all the cuddling you ever wanted.

Sage, the Siberian husky that was waiting for her third chance at a new family, finally found her forever home! Train your family well, Sage

Kittens have a tendency to get adopted very quickly from the KCAC shelter, so we weren’t surprised when Helena and Nadia’s new family members came to adopt them the minute they went up for adoption. We’re so happy for you both!

How to Adopt

All Kane County Animal Control adoptable cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all vaccines, including rabies. They are tested for feline leukemia/FIV and heartworm.

The adoption fee is $200 for dogs and $100 for cats. Adoption of two dogs is $300, and adoption of two cats is $150. The adoption fee for cockatiels is $25.

About Kane County Animal Control

It is the duty of the Animal Control Department to:

• Ensure that all domesticated dogs and cats over 4 months of age are vaccinated against rabies and have a Kane County rabies tag.
• Ensure that all reported animal bites are given precautionary attention in relation to the possibility rabies infection.
• Ensure that pet owners are instructed on proper procedures pertaining to animal bites and enforce adherence to these procedures.
• Contain loose\stray dogs in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate nuisance dog complaints in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
