Starting the week of June 4, 2018, Ellithorpe Road will be closed to traffic between Burlington Road and Chapman Road, as well as between Chapman Road and Peplow Road, in Burlington Township, in order to safely and efficiently replace two existing culverts along Ellithorpe Road.

The anticipated duration for the road closure and culvert repair is five weeks. This improvement is part of the countywide effort to repair or replace culverts in order to maintain the proper flow of waterways in Kane County.

A posted detour route will direct traffic around the closure using Peplow Road, Ramm Road, Burlington Road, and Illinois Route 47. The public is advised to safely adhere to the speed limit while following the posted detour route around the project and to expect increased travel times.

The improvements will include:

• Replacement of the existing culverts with reinforced concrete culverts and end sections.
• Pavement patching.
• Asphalt shoulder removal and replacement.

All bicyclists and pedestrians are advised to avoid using the area during construction for the safety of both the workers and the residents.

Work Zone Safety Alert

Drivers in this project area should be prepared to reduce their speed, exercise caution, watch for construction workers and construction vehicles entering or leaving the site, and obey flaggers and other traffic control devices within the work zone.

Drivers should expect delays and may want to add additional time to their commutes and consider the use of alternate routes while this work is completed.

KDOT reminds drivers that is illegal to talk on a cell phone or text while driving through a highway construction work zone. The minimum penalty for speeding in a work zone is $375.
