Say It Aint So! TCFS Hosts ‘Farewell’ Lobster Fly-In Fundraiser
If you’ve ever wanted to take part in the traditional TriCity Family Services Lobster Fly-In fundraiser, you’d better do it this coming Father’s Day weekend, because it’s the last one ever.
TCFS, a trusted partner offering counseling and mental health services for children, teens, families and community members across all life stages, invites the public to attend its annual, and final, Lobster Fly-In at the Old Kane County Courthouse in Geneva.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 16, James Street parking lot.
A 32-year community tradition, the Lobster Fly-In has become a celebrated affair for both the agency and the public, inviting people to purchase all the fixings for a Father’s Day feast, graduation or neighborhood block party. The fundraiser always has been held on the Saturday before Father’s Day.
Each summer, live lobsters are flown in from Maine. Families are invited to purchase their crustaceans, either fresh or steamed. All lobster orders include bibs and preparation instructions.
Non-seafood fans may consider other menu selections, such as beef filets provided by Ream’s Meat Market; seasonings from 360 Flavor and Spice; sourdough and French loaves baked by Breadsmith; and pints of vanilla and salted caramel ice cream courtesy of Kimmer’s.
One of the highlights of the day is witnessing on-site steaming by Arthur J. Lootens & Sons. The 1918 antique locomotive is always a popular visual and provides unique photo opportunities for the entire family.
In addition to food, families will also be able to enjoy live music by Jerry Jania, giveaways for the kids, while supplies last, and the chance to win a spectacular Fourth of July basket. All proceeds from the event benefit TriCity Family Services.
To place an order for the Farewell Lobster Fly-In, visit this page of the TCFS website or call 630-232-1070. Orders are due by noon on Tuesday, June 12. Items not picked up by 11:30 a.m. on the day of the event will be forfeited. No refunds will be issued.
