UPDATE: Gas Leak Shuts Down City Hall, Streets in Downtown Aurora

Due to a gas leak at a construction site adjacent to Aurora City Hall, downtown streets in the immediate area and City Hall are temporarily closed. Nicor is on site to rectify the matter.

The following streets are closed:

  • Downer between Stolp and Broadway
  • Broadway between Galena and Benton

City Hall was evacuated and closed for the remainder of Tuesday, May 22. It is expected to re-open during usual business hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The general City Council meeting and City Council committees scheduled for tonight (Tuesday) will be held in alternative locations in downtown Aurora.

The Finance Committee meeting at 3 p.m. and the Government Operations Committee meeting at 4:30 p.m. will be held at the city of Aurora’s Training Center, 5 E. Downer Pl., Suite G. The training center is located on the ground level of the Stolp Parking Deck along the Fox River.

The general City Council Meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the Copley Theater at North Island Center, 8 E. Galena Blvd. The meeting will be conducted as scheduled, including special presentations for the Memorial Day Parade grand marshal and military enlistees.
