Work Starts May 7 For Summerlong Bridge Replacement at U.S. 12, IL 59
Heads up if you live in the northern part of Kane County and regularly use U.S 12 or IL Route 59.
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today (Friday, May 4, 2018) that daily lane closures will take place on U.S. 12 at IL Route 59 in Fox Lake beginning Monday, May 7, weather permitting. The lane closures are necessary to complete preliminary work for a bridge replacement project on westbound U.S. 12 over Illinois 59.
Starting Monday, daily lane closures will take place in both directions on U.S. 12 near Illinois 59. The preliminary work is required to construct a new lane configuration to accommodate construction. In the new traffic pattern, both directions of traffic will be shifted onto eastbound U.S. 12, providing one lane in each direction.
The southbound Illinois 59 ramp under westbound U.S. 12 will have daily shoulder closures.
The scope of the project consists of removal and replacement of the existing westbound U.S. 12 bridge over Illinois 59. The overall project is expected to be completed in the fall.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
