Beware Of Solicitors As New County Electrical Aggregation Program Begins
Kane County recently entered into an agreement with Dynegy Energy Services, LLC for electricity supply to residents and small commercial businesses in unincorporated portions of the county. The new Kane County Electrical Aggregation Program begins in August.
Residents should be aware that solicitors may take this renewal opportunity to offer other programs.
Will Someone Come to My Home or Call to Enroll Me?
No. Applicable residents in unincorporated Kane County will automatically be enrolled in the program.
The Kane County Division of Environmental & Water Resources would like to remind residents and small businesses in the unincorporated area of Kane County that electric supplier solicitations are NOT associated with the Kane County electric aggregation program.
No one from Dynegy Energy, Kane County, or ComEd will ever visit your home or call you to enroll, nor ask for your ComEd account number.
What To Do If You’re Solicited
If a solicitor calls or visits your home claiming to be Kane County’s supplier or ComEd, take their information and report the incident to the ICC at 800-524-0795 or www.icc.illinois.gov/consumer/complaint.
Residents should also be aware that Kane County or Dynegy Energy Services will never ask residents for their ComEd account number, and residents should never give their ComEd account number to any solicitor.
The Illinois Electric Service Customer Choice and Rate Relief Law of 1997 restructured the state’s electric service industry to allow for customer choice of electric suppliers, referred to as energy deregulation.

Kane County residents are interested in changing their electric supplier are strongly recommended to carefully read the fine print of any supplier contract they may be considering to avoid an agreement offering variable or floating rates, a monthly fee in addition to the fixed rate, enrollment or early termination fees, or automatic renewal provisions.
With Kane County’s Electrical Aggregation Program, there is never a(n) enrollment, early termination, switching, or monthly fee; ratepayers may opt-in or opt-out of the program at any time to switch to another supplier or ComEd default service.
The Illinois Attorney General’s Office recommends that residents register their home and cellular phone numbers on the nationwide Do Not Call Registry in order to reduce the amount of unwanted telemarketing calls received. The Attorney General’s Office enforces the rules of the registry to make sure that businesses follow the law and consumers do not become victims of fraud.

To avoid door-to-door solicitations from electric providers, please put a “No Solicitors” sign by your front door. If you have a sign posted and the solicitor persists, you may call the non-emergency number for the Kane County Sheriff’s Office at 630-232-6840.
