KDOT June Update: New Trees Line Longmeadow Parkway Median
From landscaping to asphalt surfacing to box culverts, storm sewers, pedestrian crossing beacons, and earth moving, work is going full-steam ahead on the Longmeadow Parkway.
The Kane County Division of Transportation is also busy with the West County Line bridge replacement — and 60 other projects that are in one stage of development or another.
Landscaping, Signals For LMP — Randall Road to White Chapel Lane
Newly planted trees line the median and parkway within LMP Section A-2/B-1. (CREDIT: KDOT, for all photos in this article.)
Asphalt surface is placed on Randall Road as the contractor completes work for the LMP Section A-2/B-1- Randall to Karen Drive project.
Crews have completed planting trees on Longmeadow from Randall Road to White Chapel Lane and are buttoning up site landscaping.
Work on the permanent traffic signals at the intersections of Randall and Sleepy Hollow roads has been completed.
Remaining work for 2018 consists of installation of flashing yellow pedestrian crossing beacons at Barrett Drive and White Chapel Lane, staining of the retaining wall at Sleepy Hollow Road and other punch list items.
Completion of this section is expected to be July 2018.
LMP — White Chapel Lane to East of IL 31
Crews build box culverts and install new storm sewer lines for the new roadway east and west of IL Route 31 on LMP Section B-2.
Crews pour turn lanes for the new concrete pavement east of White Chapel on the LMP Section B-2 – White Chapel to IL Route 31 project.
Crews continue placing soil and grading the Raging Buffalo site and the areas adjacent to IL Route 31.
Crews have poured the new eastbound and westbound lanes of Longmeadow Parkway east of White Chapel, which will be used as temporary access for residents along Forest Drive while construction of the roadway continues.
Removal of the fallen trees and stump grinding along IL Route 31 continues and is expected to be complete in the coming weeks. Mass grading and earthwork on the project will continue through the year. Anticipated completion is November 2019.
LMP — East of IL 25 to IL 62 And Along IL 62
Crews continue utility relocations and start earth moving and storm sewer work on the LMP Section D — IL Route 25 to IL Route 62 project.
Utility relocation continues along IL Route 62 and is expected to be completed by the end of June.
Storm sewer work has started along IL Route 62 and will continue for the next few months. Other tasks will get started as weather and project conditions improve.
Anticipated completion is June 2019.
West County Line Bridge Replacement
With the demolition of the old bridge and setting new piles for the new structure behind them, crews begin work on the new abutments on the West County Line Road over Union Ditch #3 Bridge Replacement project.
The contractor has driven piles and is framing and pouring the new concrete abutments.
Completion for this new bridge is anticipated for the end of August 2018.
What Else Is KDOT Working On?
Here is the status of Kane County highway improvement projects that were recently awarded a construction contract or are still are in the design phase, and require right-of-way acquisition and/or additional funding before moving to construction:
- Longmeadow Parkway Bridge Corridor Section C from east of IL 31 to east of IL 25 and the new Fox River Bridge – Phase II Engineering, toll bridge studies and ROW acquisition continue. (Four parcels remain.) Portions of Section C will go to construction upon the completion of ROW acquisition, design engineering and the toll bridge studies, as necessary.
- Bliss Road/Fabyan Parkway/Main Street Road – Phase I Engineering is ongoing.
- Bunker Road Extension – Keslinger Road to LaFox Road – Phase II Engineering and ROW acquisition are ongoing.
- Dauberman Road Extension – Granart Road to U.S. 30 – Phase I Engineering is nearing completion.
- Fabyan Parkway at Kirk Road – Phase II Engineering is nearing completion and ROW acquisition is ongoing.
- Kirk Road over UP RR, Metra & Tyler Creek – Phase I Engineering is ongoing.
- Main Street Road over Blackberry Creek and at IL 47 – IDOT is the lead agency for the ongoing Phase II Engineering and ROW acquisition.
- Randall Road at Weld Road/U.S. 20 – Phase II Engineering and ROW acquisition are ongoing.
- Randall Road – Huntley Road to Big Timber Road Adaptive Signal Control – Phase II Engineering is ongoing.
- Stearns Road Stage 5A at Randall Road/McDonald Road – Phase II Engineering is ongoing.
- Various Engineering Projects – There are more than 60 active projects in various stages of completion.

Work Zone Safety Alert
Drivers in this project area should be prepared to reduce their speed, exercise caution, watch for construction workers and construction vehicles entering or leaving the site, and obey flaggers and other traffic control devices within the work zone.
Drivers should expect delays and may want to add additional time to their commutes and consider the use of alternate routes while this work is completed.
Kane County reminds drivers that is illegal to talk on a cell phone or text while driving through a highway construction work zone. The minimum penalty for speeding in a work zone is $375.
