The National Weather Service Chicago has issued an Excessive Heat Watch for Kane County and the surrounding area, in effect Friday morning through Sunday evening.

The NWS is alerting resident to “dangerously hot and humid weather” on the way, with heat indices as high as 115 degrees.

“Prepare to practice heat safety,” the NWS says. “Remember to wear lightweight, light-colored clothing, drink plenty of water, minimize sun exposure, and never leave children or pets in vehicles. Also, check on the elderly, sick and those without air condition.”

According to the Heat Watch alert, afternoon highs will be in the mid 90s and nighttime lows in the mid 70s to near 80 degrees for the next two days. Peak heat Indices are expected to be in the 105 to 115 degree range.

“The high temperatures, combined with ample sunshine and oppressive humidity, even at night, will lead to potentially hazardous conditions, particularly for the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions,” the National Weather Service says.

An Excessive Heat Watch means that a prolonged period of high temperatures is expected. The combination of high temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible.
