Rainfall Totals: Algonquin Leads Chicago Area With 4.24 Inches
Algonquin was the No. 1 in two-day rainfall totals after Tuesday’s storm, according to information provided by the National Weather Service Chicago.
NWS Cooperative observers and CoCoRaHS observers took measurements between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. Wednesday, June 27.
Algonquin’s 4.26 inches were the highest recorded by spotters throughout the Northern Illinois area — and by a long way. The second-highest rain collector was Cary with 3.99 inches.
The Algonquin location that recorded the high total, by the way, is in McHenry County, but we include it here because part of Algonquin is in Kane. The same caveat goes for Lake in the Hills, which was third highest on the NWS hit parade, with 3.71 inches.
Just as an indicator of how rainfall totals can vary in a short area, five Elgin locations were the next-highest in Kane County, with totals ranging from 3.00 inches to 2.33 inches over the two-day period.
