Aurora Set To Host Legends of Mexican Soccer at East Aurora High School

Mexican soccer league legends including Ramón Ramírez, Benjamín Galindo, Joel Sánchez Ramos and Chava Carmona will headline an exhibition soccer match Saturday (Aug. 4, 2018) at East Aurora High School.

The Clásico de Leyendas is a friendly match between former Guadalajara (Chivas) and Club América players. “Clásico” is the name given to matches between the two longtime rivals.

Ramírez, Galindo, Sánchez Ramos, Carmona, and more have been invited to play by Auroran Lucio Lopez, a former soccer pro and current coach of the Black Wolves FC, a local youth soccer organization.

“We decided we wanted to make this historic event happen here in Aurora so our community and soccer fans could meet their idols,” Lopez said. “We would like to thank the city of Aurora for all of their help and support in welcoming our group and bringing this great event to our city.”

Ramos said the former Mexican Soccer League legends are thrilled to bring the match to the Aurora community.

“You will be able to see great players who made history in the two most important teams in Mexico,” he said.

Who should attend? Lopez said soccer fans, players, coaches or anyone with an interest in the cultural side of the soccer community in Aurora will enjoy the game, which is set for 5 p.m. Saturday at East Aurora High School, 500 Tomcat Lane.
