Coroner IDs Man Found July 5 in Fox River

The Kane County Coroner’s Office has identified the man whose body was found Thursday, July 5, in the Fox River in Elgin, as Eric Elam, 35, of Elgin.

According to Elgin Police Department reports, Elgin police and fire personnel responded at around 10:28 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, to the Fox River just north of the Grand Victoria Riverboat regarding a subject who reportedly had disappeared in the water.

The Fire Department was assisted by other agencies, and a search using boats and divers lasted until 3 a.m. Thursday. No person was initially found, but additional searching was resumed, and at 1:37 p.m. Thursday, Kane County Coroner’s Office staff responded to Elgin’s portion of the Fox River to examine the body.

“There were no indications of foul play, and we extend our condolences to his family,” Elgin police officials said via Facebook.

An autopsy was performed on July 6, at the Kane County Morgue, with the preliminary cause of death being drowning.

Toxicology samples were collected and sent to a forensic laboratory for analysis.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office is cooperating with the Elgin Police Department in their ongoing investigation of this incident.
