An early morning fire in a residential neighborhood in Elgin was limited to about $50,000 in damage but no injuries, thanks in part to a friendly motorist’s quick action.

According to a news release from the Elgin Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched to a house fire on at 4:58 a.m. today (Tuesday, July 10, 2018), responding to an initial 911 call from a motorist who observed the fire from Route 20.

The first units arrived on the scene at 5:04 a.m. and found the rear of the single family home on fire. There were no occupants inside the home when the EFD arrived.

The fire was quickly controlled using two hose lines. Fire damage included the deck, attic and rear rooms of the home.

The fire was upgraded to a “Working Fire,” which brought three additional fire units to the scene.
