Geneva OKs Mixed-Use Development at Former Cetron Site

The Geneva City Council has approved the zoning map amendments and preliminary Planned Unit Development plan for the former Cetron property.

According to the city’s website, Cetron Place is a dramatic downtown-area project that will include 16 single-family homes with a shared courtyard area, six townhouses, a three-story mixed-use building containing 5,450 square feet of retail space and 20 apartments and a bike path connecting West State Street to Peyton Street.

The property — which includes the former Cetron business side as well as parcels on State Street — represents and expansion of the downtown business district as well as creating downtown residential-housing opportunities. The site at one time was slated as the location of a new Geneva library. It was later considered as a site for a large-scale multi-family development.

The applicant is Streetscape Development, LLC, a design/development/construction company focused on urban-infill development projects. The contract purchaser is Karis Capital, LLC.

According to the city’s website, the request includes demolition of existing structures.

The Geneva Public Library will be moving to a new building at the former Sixth Street School site, which was the home of the Kane County Regional Office of Education prior to the library’s purchase of the property.
