Intelligentsia Cup Bike Racing Comes July 22 To Elgin, Then July 25 To West Dundee

The Intelligentsia Cup is returning to Elgin and West Dundee!

The “Dennis Jurs Memorial Race” will take place on Sunday, July 22 — Day 3 of 10 for the for the Intelligentsia Cup Pro-Am Bicycle Racing Series.

“We are happy to bring back a great old road race course from a few years back to honor Dennis Jurs, and now also the Illinois state Road Race Championship!” organizers said on the Intelligentsia Cup website.

Parking is in the lots to the south of Slade Avenue at Center St. Access from the east on Slade, turning south on Center.

The “West Dundee River Challenge” will take place on Wednesday, July 25 — Day 6 of 10 for the Intelligentsia Cup Pro-Am Bicycle Racing Series.

Fast-paced bike racing will take place throughout day, beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing until about 8:15 p.m. in the Old Town North neighborhood, as illustrated in the map above.

COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES AT GRAFELMAN PARK 

This event is not only about the competitive bike racing, it is for the entire community! Sign the little ones up for the Kids Fun Race, join in the Family Ride, come out for a bite to eat at lunch or dinner or for a free concert in the park!

KIDS FUN RACE:  Kids ages 3 to 9 are invited to participate in the Kids Fun Ride! Races will be grouped by age and will race in heats.

Lineup will begin at 6 p.m. and races at 6:15 p.m. Participating children must wear a helmet.

A parent or guardian must register each child in advance, either at Main Street Bicycles (39 E. Main St., Carpentersville) from July 19 through July 24, or before 5:30 p.m. the day of the event, at the Volunteer and Information Tent in Grafelman Park.

Each participant can claim a free “kid’s scoop” by showing their race number bib at Van’s Frozen Custard (16 E. Main St., East Dundee).

FAMILY RIDE: All are welcome to try out a shortened version of the race course during the Family Ride, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Registration and helmets are required. Register at the Volunteer and Information Tent in Grafelman Park the day of the event.

FOOD & BEVERAGE SALES: Want to grab lunch or dinner at the event? Dog N Go will be at Grafelman Park at lunchtime serving up hot dogs, chips and more. Emmett’s Brewing Company will be on hand from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. for dinner, offering burgers and Emmett’s craft beer.

LAWN GAMES:  Keep the kids (or yourself) entertained with lawn games such as Baggo and over-sized versions of classic tabletop games like Connect 4, available in Grafelman Park throughout the day.

CONCERT IN THE PARK:  Local band “Gasoline Alley” will play a free concert in the Gazebo to cap off the event, beginning at about 7 p.m. until about 8:30 p.m. Come out and dance the night away to rock ‘n roll AM-radio hits from the ’50s, ’60s and early ’70s!
