July 2018 KDOT Road Update: A Lot of LMP Work, County Line Bridge Replacement

Bridge work at County Line Road and Longmeadown Parkway road work are two of the major projects going on in July in Kane County.

According to KDOT’s monthly report to the County Board Transportation Committee, heavy rains has made some of the work difficult, but projects are moving forward expeditiously.

LMP — Randall Road to White Chapel Lane

Crews are buttoning up site landscaping and working on punch list items on Longmeadow Parkway from Randall Road to Chapel White Lane.

The flashing yellow pedestrian crossing beacons at Barrett Drive and White Chapel Lane have been installed and are operational. Completion of this section is expected by late July or early August.

LMP — White Chapel Lane to east of IL Route 31

Earth moving is in full swing on the LMP Section B-2 — White Chapel to IL 31 project.

Crews make the best of recent rains while working on LMP Section B-2.

Crews continue placing soil and grading the Raging Buffalo site and the areas adjacent to IL Route 31.

Storm sewer installation and utility relocation are ongoing, and mass grading and earthwork on the project will continue throughout the year. Anticipated completion is November 2019.

LMP — East of IL 25 to IL 62 And Along IL 62

Rain doesn’t stop utilities from relocating on the LMP Section B-2 project.

Utility relocation continues along IL Route 62 and is expected to be completed by the end of July.

Storm sewer work has started along Longmeadow Parkway and will continue for the next few weeks. Other tasks will get started as weather and project conditions improve.

Anticipated completion is June 2019.

West County Line Over Union Ditch #3 Bridge Replacement

Bridge crews work around the rain and rising water to keep the project on track and on time on the West County Line Rd over Union Ditch #3 Bridge Replacement project.

The contractor for West County Line Road over Union Ditch #3 Bridge Replacement has placed the steel beams and is framing the deck in anticipation of a deck pour later this month.

Completion for this new bridge is anticipated in September 2018.

What Else Is KDOT Working On?

Here is the status of Kane County highway improvement projects that were recently awarded a construction contract or are still are in the design phase, and require right-of-way acquisition and/or additional funding before moving to construction:

  • Longmeadow Parkway Bridge Corridor Section C from east of IL Route 31 to east of IL Route 25 and the new Fox River Bridge — Phase II engineering, toll bridge studies and ROW acquisition continue (four parcels remain). Portions of Section C will go to construction upon the completion of right-of-way acquisition, design engineering and the toll bridge studies, as necessary.
  • Bliss Road/Fabyan Parkway/Main Street Road — Phase II engineering is under way.
  • Bunker Road Extension – Keslinger Road to LaFox Road — Phase II Engineering and ROW acquisition are ongoing.
  • Dauberman Road Extension – Granart Road to U.S. 30 — Phase I engineering is nearing completion and the locally-funded portion of Phase II engineering has started.
  • Fabyan Parkway at Kirk Road — Phase II engineering is nearing completion, and right-of-way acquisition is ongoing.
  • Kirk Road over UP RR, Metra and Tyler Creek — Phase I engineering is ongoing.
  • Main Street Road over Blackberry Creek and at IL Route 47 — IDOT is the lead agency for the ongoing Phase II engineering and right-of-way acquisition.
  • Randall Road at Weld Road/U.S. 20 — Phase II Engineering and ROW acquisition are ongoing.
  • Randall Road – Huntley Road to Big Timber Road Adaptive Signal Control — Phase II engineering is ongoing.
  • Stearns Road Stage 5A at Randall Road/McDonald Road — Phase II engineering is ongoing.
  • Various Engineering Projects — There are over 60 active projects in various stages of completion. Please contact the KDOT office if you have a question on the status of another project.

Work Zone Safety Alert

Drivers in this project area should be prepared to reduce their speed, exercise caution, watch for construction workers and construction vehicles entering or leaving the site, and obey flaggers and other traffic control devices within the work zone.

Drivers should expect delays and may want to add additional time to their commutes and consider the use of alternate routes while this work is completed.

Kane County reminds drivers that is illegal to talk on a cell phone or text while driving through a highway construction work zone. The minimum penalty for spe­eding in a work zone is $375.
