The Kane County Heroin Initiative Task Force has arrested and charged a 41-year-old Romeoville man with selling heroin to an undercover police officer in Aurora.

According to a report from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, sheriff’s deputies and members of the task force took into custody Ronald Doss at around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, (July 25, 2018). The arrest was made in the parking lot of an Aurora business.

Kane County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Pat Gengler said the news release did not name the business because it was not involved in any way with the alleged crime.

Doss is charged with three counts of delivery of a controlled substance. Two of those counts are Class X felonies, the other is a Class 1 felony, Gengler said.

The Sheriff’s Office said Doss, on three separate occasions, sold heroin to an undercover police officer.

After testing the substance, the Sheriff’s Office determined that some of the heroin also contained fentanyl, a synthetic opioid drug the Drug Enforcement Administration describes as “100 times more potent than morphine and 50 times more potent than heroin as an analgesic.”

In total, about 200 dosage units with an estimated total weight of 76 grams was sold to the undercover police officer, Gengler said. The estimated street value is more than $5,000.

Doss’ bond was set at $500,000. His next court date is 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, in Courtroom 313.

The charges against Doss are not proof of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Kane County Heroin Initiative Tasks Force is comprised of law enforcement officials from various federal, state, county and local law enforcement agencies. The goal of the task force is it to actively combat the opioid epidemic through enforcement, treatment and education.
