UPDATE: Coroner ID’s 18-Year-Old Elgin Woman Killed in Randall Road Crash

The Kane County Coroner’s Office has identified the 18-year-old woman killed Sunday (July 29, 2018) after her car was struck by a semi-trailer truck at the intersection of Randall Road and Hopps Road as Consuelo Pina of Elgin.
An autopsy was performed on July 30, 2018 at the Kane County morgue, with the preliminary cause of death being “multiple injuries.” Toxicology samples were collected at the time of the autopsy and sent to a forensic laboratory.
The Coroner’s Office is cooperating with the Elgin Police Department in their ongoing investigation of the incident.

According to a report by the Elgin Police Department, police and fire personnel responded to the intersection at about 2:20 p.m. Sunday.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a semi-truck driven by a 57-year-old Wheeling resident was traveling north on Randall Road when a southbound vehicle driven by Pina turned east onto Hopps Road from Randall Road and was struck by the truck.
Pina, the sole occupant, was pronounced deceased from injuries sustained in the crash. Pina’s identity had been withheld pending notification to relatives, police said.

Randall Road was closed until about 8:19 p.m. Sunday, according to police.
More than 40 people responded to the Elgin Police Department’s Facebook post.
“This was truly one of the most awful things I have ever seen,” one witness said. “I hope that the family of the young woman knows that at least a dozen people got out of their cars and ran through the field to try and help. Thank you to the EPD and all of the other first responders that were at the scene.”
