The Kane County Circuit Clerk’s Office has collected more than $1 million in debt since January, thanks in part to the county’s new, online case-management system.

According to a news release from Circuit Clerk Thomas M. Hartwell’s office, $1,169,655 in debt has been recovered since the beginning of 2018. The collections include monies recovered through the Local Debt Recovery Program of the Illinois Office of the Comptroller and Kane County’s collection services provider, Harris and Harris.

Hartwell credits online initiatives for some of the success.

“More than $4,244,007 in delinquent debt has been recovered since July 2015 and Kane County’s changeover to the Tyler Odyssey judicial case management system,” he said.

Other initiatives, such as ePlea and eGuilty online payment, will save time for Kane County customers and further decrease collection burdens on our office, Hartwell said.

“More importantly, these collected debts represent monies which should have been distributed to support the programs and services of many county and state agencies,” he said. “Successful collections will help them provide their services and further benefit the public.”

The Kane County Circuit Clerk’s office and the 16^th Judicial Circuit Court process more than 25,000 case files each month and the circuit clerk’s office handles 6,000 phone inquiries per month from citizens, court officials and attorneys.

The office of Kane County Circuit Clerk Tom Hartwell is located in the Kane Branch Court building at 540 S. Randall Rd, St. Charles, just north of Route 38.
