City of St. Charles Seeks 1,500 Children’s Books for August Book Drive
The city of St. Charles is collecting children’s books in August for donation to Bernie’s Book Bank, the leading non-profit provider of quality books to at-risk children in the Chicagoland area.
The city’s ambitious goal is1,500 books. Collection bins are in the lobbies of the St. Charles Municipal Building, 2 E. Main St., and Police Department, 211 N. Riverside Ave.
New and gently used children’s books for ages birth through sixth grade are welcome. The city asks people NOT to donate workbooks, textbooks, coloring books, reference books or teacher’s guides.
Bernie’s Book Bank provides books to schools and social service organizations throughout the area, including those in St. Charles, Wasco, Elgin, West Chicago, and Carpentersville.
These organizations then distribute the books to at-risk children. Each child receives 12 books. More information is at http://berniesbookbank.org
If you do not have any books but still want to participate, you can donate online at https://cloud4good.tfaforms.net/384836 (type in “St. Charles” as the book drive name) or drop off your donation at the City Reception Desk. Just $8 provides 12 books to a child for a year.
