One of the really fun Kane County events of the year, the Fox Valley Folk Music & Storytelling Festival, was cancelled in 2017 due to the flood conditions that hammered communities all along the Fox River.

The event is back in 2018, and in a big way.

The 42nd annual event is set for Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018, and Labor Day Monday, Sept. 3, at Island Park in Geneva. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days.

There’s also a “Midnight Special” preview concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, on WFMT Radio, 98.7 FM, featuring artists Debra Cowan, Joe Crookston, Frank Lee & Allie Burbrink and Jack Williams.

More than 35 featured acts and more than 100 folk musicians and storytellers will perform over eight stages during the festival.

The event includes an Old-Time Community Barn Dance from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, and “Ghost Stories” on the Main Music Stage Tent from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.

The event features special workshops and showcases with Chicago Sacred Harp Singers and Two Way Street Favorites.

Organizers are seeking admission donations of $25 per day for adults, $15 for teens and elders. The event is free for children age 12 and under. You can get a $5 discount if you attend both days or a family rate of $55 per day for parents and their children.
