4 Kane Cities in Top 10 Best For Jobs in Illinois
Four Kane County communities earned a place in the top 10 of WalletHub’s list of 2018 cities that are best in Illinois for jobs.
And two of those cities — St. Charles and Geneva — were ranked No. 1 and No. 2 respectively.
South Elgin was eighth and Batavia 10th on the list.
Other Kane County communities on the list were Algonquin (16th), Huntley (28th), Aurora (40th), Elgin (60th) and Carpentersville (87th).
The personal-finance website rated the job-seeker friendliness of more than 120 Illinois cities based on 16 key indicators of labor-market health, ranging from “employment growth” to “median monthly starting salary” to “unemployment rate.”
St. Charles was fifth in the category of “Most Job Opportunties.” Batavia and Huntley were among a six-way tie for first in the category of “Lowest Unemployement Rate For High School Graduates,” and Algonquin was third in the category of “Highest Median Annual Income (Adjusted for Cost of Living.)”

Despite its difficulties, Illinois shines in a few key financial areas, according to WalletHub. Illinois boasts the fifth-largest state economy by GDP, for one.
And while its public sector is hurting, its private sector is accelerating. This year, 37 Illinois companies made the Fortune 500 list and far many more grace the most recent Inc. 5,000 ranking.
“Not all Illinois local job markets are the same,” WalletHub said. “Their strength varies significantly.”
