Kane County is in the process of constructing the Northwestern Medicine Cross Country Course at the former Settlers Hill Landfill in Batavia.

In order to complete construction of the course, Kane County is importing approximately 200,000 cubic yards of clean soil from area construction projects.

The clean soil import is already under way. However, material is still needed to reach project goals.

Unique Course Design

The Northwestern Medicine Cross Country Course at the former Settlers Hill Landfill has a unique design.

From atop the hill, spectators will be able to view the entire cross country race and surrounding area. Race participants will be challenged by the course designed to NCAA guidelines and capable of hosting a variety of distance events for high school, collegiate, and community events.

Kane County Board member John Martin, who helped spearhead the project, said the course will have significant benefits for residents of the county and the region.

“The project not only honors a decades long commitment to the residents of Geneva and Batavia to reclaim public use of the closed landfill but also strengthens the concept of an area sports core,” he said.

The import phase of the project is likely to continue through the 2019 construction season.
