Fox River Clean-Up Days Set in Algonquin, Geneva

Two Kane County communities are hosting Fox River clean-up days this month.

11th ANNUAL ‘It’s Our River Day’ Sept. 15 in Algonquin

The Environmental Defenders of McHenry County and the village of Algonquin will hold the 11th annual “It’s Our River Day” — a local Fox River clean-up.

The event will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018, at Cornish Park along the shoreline of the Fox River in historic downtown Algonquin. Cornish Park is located at the intersection of South Harrison Street and Route 62.

“It’s Our River Day,” a statewide celebration, kicks off at 1 p.m. with a welcome from a representative from the village of Algonquin.

The Sierra Club will provide bags and gloves for the shoreline clean-up at the main location at Cornish Park. Volunteers from the Illinois Paddling Council, Water Trailkeepers and Prairie State Canoeists will participate in an in-river clean-up between Cornish Park and Fox River Shores in Carpentersville.

The Fox River Jeep Club will be located at Buffalo Park for trash/recycling pick-up downstream

All are welcome to help clean up the beautiful Fox River. The event is free and open to the public. Groups are welcome. Parking is in lots and street-side.

Geneva NRC Hosting Sept. 30 Fox River Clean Up Day

The city of Geneva’s Natural Resources Committee is looking for some helping hands as part of the group’s seventh annual Fox River Clean-Up Day in late September.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday, Sept. 30. Volunteers can meet the committee at the south end of Island Park, 2 Route 25.

Volunteers are encouraged to wear old clothes and sturdy boots/shoes for wading through the Fox River. They should also should bring sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat and hair ties as well as a second clean outfit and shoes to change into afterwards.

Restrooms are available on-site.

The effort not only beautifies the Fox River, but participants also will enjoy the day outside with other river enthusiasts. The rain date for the Fox River Clean-Up Day will be 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 7.
