Kane County Clerk Spreads Word About Electronic Voting in Aurora

Spreading the word, Kane County Clerk John A. “Jack” Cunningham brought his electronic-voting road show to the Aurora Noon Lions Club meeting Monday, Sept. 17, at Luigi’s Pizza in Aurora.
Cunningham, accompanied by deputy clerks Brian Pollock and John Emerson, detailed eSlate electronic voting machines scheduled to be deployed in Aurora polling places this fall. The machines will be used for both early voting and election-day voting.
eSlate Voting Device
According to Cunningham, his office is conducting a voter-outreach program to educate 65,000 voters and 800 election judges about electronic voting. He appealed to local businesses to lend their signage to support the program.
With an instructional video, Pollock walked the audience through how to use the machines to cast ballots.
A handout touted benefits of the devices:
- Fast and easy to use for voters of all ages.
- Is accessible to voters with disabilities.
- Does not require knowledge of computers.
- Provides a voter-verified paper trail.
Voters throughout Kane County except for the city of Aurora have used the eSlate system for years. Aurora voters will use eSlate for the first time for voting and early voting in the November election.
The Kane County Clerk’s Office assumed responsibility for election administration and voter registration for residents living in the Kane County portion of the city of Aurora following the termination of the AEC.
Aurora residents are encouraged to stop into the new Aurora satellite of the Kane County Clerk’s Office to become familiar with the eSlate voting machines that will be used in elections beginning this fall.
