Starting today (Sept. 10, 2018), contractors will begin the installation of Pace Bus shelters, pedestrian crossing improvements, and multi-use trails along Randall Road between South Street in Elgin and Red Gate Road in St. Charles.

Bus shelters will be installed at Red Gate Road, Bolcum Road, Pamela Avenue, Gyorr Avenue, College Green Drive, and South Street.

All of the intersections will have improvements made to the pedestrian crossings to meet Americans with Disabilities Act including detectable warnings, new pedestrian signals, striping, and the necessary infrastructure improvements to support the upgrades.

A new multi-use path will be installed between Silver Glen Road and Thornwood Avenue. These improvements are being funded by federal grants and PACE Bus.

A list of the intersections to be improved are:

Weld Road, South Street, College Green Drive, Bowes Road, Hopps Road, Gyorr Road, Thornwood Avenue, Pamela Drive, Silver Glen Road, Bolcum Road and Red Gate Road.

Construction work hours will be from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, weather permitting.

The above-mentioned intersections will remain open during treatment, but may be reduced to one lane of travel using flaggers and temporary daily lane closures between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Motorists need to be prepared to reduce their speed, exercise caution, and be extra alert. Motorists must watch for construction workers, construction vehicles entering or leaving the site, and obey flaggers and other traffic control devices within the work zone.

Motorists should expect delays while traveling through the work areas. Motorists may want to add additional time to their commutes and consider the use of alternate routes while this work is being completed.

KDOT reminds drivers that it is illegal to talk on a cell phone while driving through a highway construction work zone.
