According to a Kane County Sheriff’s Office news release, sheriff’s deputies along with Sugar Grove and Elburn Police Department officers responded at around 2:25 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 20, 2018) to 4 Laura Lane in unincorporated Sugar Grove Township for a report of an armed subject.

Upon arrival, deputies learned that a 49-year-old male at the residence had pointed a rifle toward his son and made suicidal statements. The son was able to leave the residence.

The Kane County Regional SWAT Team was called to the scene along with crisis negotiators. After about an hour, the subject agreed to come out of the residence and surrendered without incident.

The man, who was unidentified in the news release, was transported to an Aurora area hospital for evaluation.

Kane County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Pat Gengler said the West Aurora and Kaneland School Districts were notified due to their school bus routes in the area.

As of Thursday, no charges had been filed against the subject.
