The Aurora Police Department is pursuing leads in an incident in which a police officer came under fire while on routine patrol Thursday, Sept. 27.

According to the Aurora Police Department, at about 11:45 p.m. Thursday, a shot was fired at the officer, who was in a fully marked Aurora Police Department vehicle as he traveled south on Ohio Street at Claim Street.

The shot came from a dark-colored Jeep that was traveling behind the officer. The officer was able to maneuver his squad and get behind the Jeep, and he began to pursue the vehicle in an attempt to stop it.

Another shot was fired from the Jeep at the squad near Claim and Smith Street.

Because the officer had a civilian rider with him, he terminated the pursuit due to safety concerns. He did not return gunfire, there were no injuries, and nothing appeared to be hit.

The suspect vehicle was last seen traveling west on Claim Street at a high rate of speed.
