It’s homecoming time in Kane County, and that means parades that will close roads and change traffic patterns in several downtown areas.

Here are recent updates from Batavia, St. Charles,  Elgin and Sugar Grove.

Kaneland Homecoming Parade in Sugar Grove

Kaneland Homecoming Parade rotates to Sugar Grove this year. The parade kicks off at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, down Snow Street from Municipal toward John Shields Elementary.

No parking will be permitted on Indigo, Ridgeview, and Snow St from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday so that the parade has safe movement of participants and spectators.

Expect traffic delays and restricted movement from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the area.

Batavia High School Homecoming Parade Closes Roads, Bridge Sept. 19

Batavia High School will be participating in its annual homecoming parade on West Wilson Street in the downtown area business district at around 4:40 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018.

Traffic will be detoured on IL Route 25 and East Wilson Street, with temporary road closures of the Wilson Street Bridge and IL Route 31 (Batavia Avenue at West Wilson Street). The event will have a significant impact on vehicle traffic along all roads that intersect the parade route.

The Wilson Street Bridge will be closed to all East/West bound traffic at 4:40 p.m. and Route 31 (Batavia Avenue) will be closed at about 5:15 p.m. between McKee Street and Main Street.

Parade units will begin staging between 4 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. on Nnorth River Street at Spring Street.

The parade will start at 5 p.m. and proceed south on North River Street to East Wilson Street. The parade will then precede west on Wilson Street to the end point at Batavia High School and Western Avenue.

All vehicle traffic intending on traveling to the west side of Batavia from IL Route 25 and East Wilson Street will be required to detour to Fabyan Parkway to the north or IL Route 56 in North Aurora to the south.

The following detour routes should be used to avoid the parade event area; Vehicle traffic needing to get to Randall Road from downtown Batavia should use McKee Street north of West Wilson Street on IL Route 31 and Main Street south of West Wilson Street on Route 31.

Vehicles traveling east on West Wilson Street at Western Avenue will be detoured north on Western Avenue to McKee Street.

Motorists are encouraged to plan their route accordingly during this time as to minimize travel delays. The parade is expected to last one hour with all roads open by 6:15 p.m.

Roads to Close for St. Charles East High School Homecoming Parade Sept. 21, 2018

The 2018 St. Charles East High School Homecoming Parade will be held on Main Street (IL Route 64) at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, 2018.

The parade begins at West Main and 6th Street traveling east across the Main Street bridge to 2nd Avenue.

Street closures are as follows:

• Main Street will be closed between 7th Street and 5th Avenue (IL Route 25) beginning at 12:45 p.m.
• 2nd Street (IL Route 31) will be closed between State Street and Illinois Street beginning at 12:45 p.m.
• Main Street (Route 64) traffic will be detoured to Illinois Street during the parade.  Truck Traffic is encouraged to use Illinois Route 38.
• 2nd Street (Route 31) traffic will be detoured to 7th Street. Route 31 Truck Traffic is encouraged to use Randall Road as an alternate.
• S. 5th and S. 6th streets between Main Street and Illinois Street will be closed beginning at 11 a.m. for parade staging; 2nd Avenue between Main Street and Illinois Avenue will be closed beginning at 12:30 p.m. to allow parade units to exit the parade route.

Motorists are urged to use care and to be watchful for pedestrians.  Traffic assistance will be provided by Police and Emergency Management personnel stationed throughout the detour route.

Motorists are strongly encouraged to use alternate routes.  Traffic delays may be lengthy.
