Aurora Police Report Homicide on Illinois Avenue
Two men were shot, one fatally, while inside of a car in a Near West Side coin laundry parking lot around 7 p.m. Wednesday evening, Aurora police said.
According to an APD Facebook post, the suspect, described as a black man, 5 feet, 7 inches, 150 pounds and wearing a dark, hooded sweatshirt, walked up to the vehicle in the 800 block of West Illinois Avenue, shot multiple times into it and then ran west from the scene.
Both men, Neal M. Brooks, 25, of the 400 block of North River Street, Aurora; and a 32-year-old man with addresses in both Naperville and Chicago, were hit more than once by gunfire.
Brooks was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:18 p.m. The other man was taken to an Aurora hospital by Aurora Fire Department paramedics for treatment of non-life-threatening wounds.
A definite motive has not been established but the crime does not appear to be random in nature.
An autopsy will be performed later today (Thursday, Oct. 18) at the Kane County Coroner’s Office.
