Flags at Half Staff To Honor Victims of Pittsburgh Synagogue Shooting

United States and Illinois flags will fly at half staff immediately until sunset, Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018, to honor the innocent lives lost Saturday when a gunman opened fire on a the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh’s historic Squirrel Hill neighborhood.

Eleven lives were taken Saturday morning. Two other worshipers were injured and four officers also were injured after Robert Bowers, 46, stormed into the synagogue shouting hatred and killing worshipers in a 20-minute attack.

Details of the shooting and the motive were still under investigation today (Monday, Oct. 29, 2018).

Earlier today, the Illinois Department of Central Management Services received notice from the President of the United States of America and Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner that all persons or entities covered by the Illinois Flag Display Act are to fly the flags at half-staff immediately.

Flags will remain at half staff until sunset Wednesday, Oct. 31.
