Hunt For Treasure at Oct. 27 Art Harvest in Downtown Elgin
Join the Elgin Cultural Arts Commission for the third annual Art Harvest to be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, in DuPage Court, referred to as “Art Central,” in downtown Elgin.
The event has several family-friendly components like a community yarn-bomb spider web, inside-out haunted house, decorate-your-own-pumpkin, hay rides, arts and crafts, and more.
An Art Treasure Hunt will take participants around downtown Elgin to visit public art installations. At each piece of public art, participants will meet a local artist and have their maps marked, and head back to Art Central to redeem completed maps for prizes.
The two new pieces of public art are located in downtown Elgin:
- “Stronger Together”: This mural by artist Pam Seatter is being installed on the north facing wall of the Centre of Elgin’s parking deck first floor. The wall of women’s faces, all unique in personality, set in colorful rectangular shapes and patterns, form a sea of women stitched together, symbolizing a solid front.
- “The Shape of Happiness” is sculpture by artist Ben Pierce that will be installed near the north end of Foundry Park, off State Street in downtown Elgin. “The Shape of Happiness” is a collection of circles, each different from the others in size, shape, and finish – though they are all created out of stainless steel. The circles represent the feeling of pure joy and happiness recalled in the childhood memory of blowing, chasing and popping bubbles.
Families are encouraged to dress in costume and visit various downtown businesses that will be open for trick-or-treating.
The event is free, family-friendly, and open to the public. A full schedule, map, and list of participating trick-or-treating businesses with addresses will be posted to the Elgin Cultural Arts Commission Facebook page.
