A 59-year-old St. Charles-area woman was killed this morning (Monday, Oct. 15, 2018) after her car crashed into a tree on IL Route 25 in St. Charles Township.

According to a report from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at around 7:05 a.m. for a report of a vehicle that had crashed into a tree.

The initial investigation indicates that a Chevrolet Malibu driven by Karen Crampton of St. Charles Township was traveling north on IL Route 25 and for an unknown reason left the roadway and struck a tree on the east side of the state route south of Hickory Lane.

Crampton, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
