Weekend Rain Coming, Flood Advisory in Effect For Fox River
Kane County is expected to get hit with some heavy ready this weekend, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Flood Advisory for the Fox River.
As usual, the advisory is for the Fox River at the Algonquin Tailwater, affecting Kane and McHenry counties, and at Montgomery, affecting Kane and Kendall Counties.
River forecast are based upon rainfall expected over the next 48 hours. Additional rainfall is forecast beyond that period that may cause additional rises.
A Hazardous Weather Outlook is in effect through the weekend, as well.
An active pattern will persist across northern Illinois, bringing multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms to the area. Heavy rain is expected at times and will lead to rises on area streams and rivers.
Detailed Weekend Forecast
This is the forecast specifically for Kane County.
- Friday — Showers and thunderstorms likely before 7am, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 7am and 1pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. High near 65. East southeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
- Friday Night — Showers and thunderstorms likely. Cloudy, with a low around 61. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming south southwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
- Saturday — Showers and thunderstorms likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 70. Southwest wind around 10 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
- Saturday Night — Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 54. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Algonquin
As of 11 a.m. today (Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018), the river was at 8.62 feet. The “Action” level just below the Minor Flood Stage is 9 feet.
Flood stage is 9.5 feet at the tailwater.
The river will rise to near 9.4 feet by Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service Chicago.
Montgomery
As of 10:30 a.m. today (Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018), the river was at 12.53 feet — at the “Action” level just below the Minor Flood Stage.
Flood stage is 13 feet in Montgomery.
Right After Record High Temps
All of this happens after record high temperatures recorded Wednesday.
In Kane County, Batavia and Sugar Grove each reported highs of 88 degrees.
