UPDATE: What’s Closed, What’s Open Columbus Day 2018

Editor’s Note: Be sure to check for updates below. The village of East Dundee offices are open on Columbus Day. The Forest Preserve District of Kane County administrative headquarters will be open on Columbus Day, as well. The city of Elgin offices are open on Columbus Day.

With the Columbus Day holiday on Monday, Oct. 8, here’s a quick look at what is open and closed in Kane County, IL.

Banks

The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago is closed.
Most local banks are closed.

Businesses

Most retail businesses are open Monday, Oct. 8, 2018. That includes department stores, restaurants and grocery stores. Many businesses even have Columbus Day sales in the store and online.

Cities and Villages

The following is information on non-emergency office hours for Monday, Oct. 8, in Kane County villages and cities based on the calendar information of each office’s website. Click here for links to local government offices in Kane County.

Garbage and recycling collection is not operational in many cities and villages on Monday, but check with local public works offices at the links below..

Kane County

Kane County non-emergency offices are closed Monday, Oct. 8.

The Kane County Clerk’s Office divisions of Vital Records, Passports and Tax Extension in the Geneva and Aurora offices will be closed on Monday, Oct. 8, 2018 for the Columbus Day Holiday. However, the Kane County Elections Department will be open for early voting from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at both the Aurora office and the main office in Geneva.
Forest Preserve District of Kane County administrative headquarters will be open on Columbus Day during regular hours: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All Kane County forest preserves will be open sunrise to sunset (as always).
