2ND UPDATE: No Charges Filed After Lake in The Hills Man Struck, Killed By Car in Algonquin
No charges have been filed in the case of the Lake in the Hills man who died after being struck Oct. 30, 2018, by a vehicle on West Algonquin Road.
Algonquin police along with the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team investigated the fatal crash, and police said Tuesday (Nov. 6, 2018) that “no charges will be filed in relation to this investigation.”
According to Algonquin police, officers responded at about 6:12 p.m. Oct. 30 to a report of a traffic crash at the intersection of West Algonquin Road and Crystal Lake Road.
The preliminary investigation determined that a 53-year-old Lake in the Hills resident, later identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office as David Popovich, was crossing West Algonquin Road at Crystal Lake Road when he was struck by a vehicle driving west on West Algonquin Road.
Popovich was taken to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital in critical condition and later to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he died.
The driver of the vehicle, a 50-year-old female from Algonquin, was not injured and showed no signs of impairment.
The eastbound and westbound lanes of West Algonquin Road were closed to traffic for about three-and-a-half hours while the crash was investigated on Tuesday night.
