The National Weather Service Chicago has changed its tune a bit regarding the winter outlook.

Back in October, the NWS said we could expect a slightly milder-than-normal winter and a slightly wetter-than-normal period from December 2018 through February 2019.

Now, the outlook is for temperatures to be slightly colder than normal.

Precipitation is still supposed to be below normal for that three-month period, but the NWS warns that doesn’t necessarily mean less snow.

“Many past similar winters had less-than-normal precipitation and greater-than-normal snow,” the NWS says in the above graphic.

Why the change of heart? A big part of it has to do with the blizzard conditions of last night (Nov. 25) and this morning (Monday, Nov. 26).

“If a significant snowfall happens prior to the start of December, the probability of above-normal snowfall for the fall-spring season will increase,” the NWS says.
