Election 2018 State Races: (FINAL) Pritzker Defeats Rauner, Dems Sweep Statewide Races
3:30 PM WEDNESDAY (NOV. 7) UPDATE
The blue wave that some had expected in national elections did take place in Illinois contests.
Democrats swept the statewide races, with JB Pritzker defeating incumbent Bruce Rauner and other candidates for governor, Kwame Raoul defeating Erika Harold and Bubba Harsy for attorney general, Jesse White winning re-election as secretary of state over Jason Helland and Steve Dutner, Susana A. Mendoza winning the race for state comptroller over Darlene Senger and Claire Ball, and Michael W. Frerichs capturing the race for state comptroller over Jim Dodge and Michael Leheney.
The totals in Kane County — once considered a Republican stronghold — mirrored the state totals, with Democrats winning in each statewide race.
For state Senate races in Kane County, Republicans won the day. Dan McConchie defeated Democrat Tom Georges in District 26, and Donald P. DeWitte defeated Democrat Nancy Zettler in District 33.
It was a mixed bag in state House races in Kane County.
Democrat Anna Moeller defeated Republican Andrew R. Cuming in District 43, Democrat Karina Villa defeated Republican Tonia Jane Khouri in District 49, Republican Keith R. Wheeler defeated Democrat James G. Leslie in District 50, Republican Dan Ugaste defeated Democrat Richard Johnson in District 65, Republican Jeff Keicher defeated Democrat Paul Stoddard in District 70 and Democrat Stephanie A. Kifowit defeated Patty Smith in District 84.
